kings Beach Sunrise | Caloundra
26th April, 2015
Caloundra, where the sun shines bright, there’s a beach for everyone and rock pools to explore. This place has been my ‘escape to paradise’ before I can remember. Being very fortunate enough to have a family unit located at Kings beach. I grew up having this amazing location as a second home on weekends.
Only an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, Caloundra is easily accessed and great for anyone to enjoy. There are five main beaches in very close proximity to each other. While some are easy to swim at then others, they are all enjoyable in their own way.
On this particular morning, I woke at 5am and headed straight to the rocks walking around to the headland between Kings Beach and Shelley’s Beach. If you are wanting to do this yourself there are few ways you can get to the headland. One way is if you start where I did on the rocks at Kings Beach and make your way to the point (careful you don’t slip on some of the slimy rocks). This route is the longest but I find it the most exciting, because who doesn’t like rediscovering the joys of exploring on the rocks as you did when you were a child. The second way is if you walk along the Esplanade Headland pathway and make your way down one of the worn in tracks. This way is good if you don’t like walking along the rocks. Lastly, the third way is to enter the rocks from Shelley’s beach, walking only a short distance along flat rocks to the headland.
The sunrise was well worth getting out of bed in the early cold morning. The sky showcasing colours of orange, yellow, pink and blue before the bright sun appeared in the horizon. It’s funny how the moments before the sun appears can last so long, but as soon as it starts to rise it happens so quickly. Before I knew it light was touching everything, with hardly a cloud in the sky. A great day to be had at the beach..... but later in the day when it warms up a bit.
